Who are you?
My name is Bradford Pettigrew, and I am a Fine
Art and Glamour photographer based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
I started photography
in the early 1980's, and cut my teeth doing Fashion and commercial work, as well
as working in theatre, doing production photos and actors head shots. Over many years
of shooting mundane material, I moved out of the business, and only shot as a hobby,
even then only rarely.
In 1997 I had an epiphany of sorts, when I met a young
woman in whose face I saw a vision. This was to become the first "Fluffy"
photograph, and it reawakened in me a love of photography. This was also around the
time that I was actively discovering the internet, and "The Hungry Eye"
was born.
Today, I shoot only what interests me, and have been rewarded with
a reputation for quality work.
Is this your primary living?
My primary vocation is in the music industry, where I work as a sales consultant
for recording equipment and software. I have been a professional musician for over
25 years, and often perform, either with bands, or as a solo singer/songwriter. I
play guitar, keyboards and vocals, and own my own small production company, John
Doe Productions. (see the "Links" page.)
Where does
"Hungry Eye" come from?
The term has been in my mind for
many years, but I believe it originates with the metaphysical poet William Blake,
as in "She was a feast for the hungry eye."
Where do you
find your models?
Most of my models have approached me after seeing
the site, and contact me through the "Shoot Me" page. Some are professionals
with whom I have corresponded over the internet, but many are simply lovely young
women who would like to have high quality photos of themselves.
I actively participate
in a number of online modeling and photography forums, which has also proven invaluable
in showing my work to prospective models. (see my "Links" page)
I have
been very fortunate, in that some wonderful models have had an interest in working
with me, which is both gratifying, and rewarding, in that it gives me quality images
for my own portfolio.
How do you compensate your models?
I do a lot of "Time for Print" work, which entails a model providing her
services in exchange for photos, which can be used for modeling portfolios, or just
for images for personal use. I will often do commercial work in exchange for a models
time and consideration. This works well for many models, and is an excellent way
to add to your portfolio. A professional portfolio shoot can easily cost a novice
model $1500.00, which, in a small market like Edmonton, is a large outlay.
For
commercial work, and for certain professional models, I do, of course, pay either
an hourly or day rate, based on the project, and experience.
How
does one become a "Hungry Model?"
The girls in the "Hungry
Models" section of this site are all models who have worked with me, and who
have shown an interest in having an internet presence. Any photos exhibited on their
page are taken by me, and they have the option of linking to their own web site and
an email address, if they wish to. Any model who has worked with me can have a page
if they wish, but there is no obligation.
Do you still do commercial
work?
Yes, but only if the project interests me on a creative level.
I have done private portrait work for a number of clients, and have done some very
nice Boudoir projects as well. I have shot CD covers and promo shots for musicians,
and still do actors head shots, often in exchange for modeling time. Several of the
models in the Fine Art and Glamour galleries of this site are musicians and actors.
I have had work published in several magazines, and hope for more of this sort
of work in future.
